How to Prepare a Sound File for Encoding to MP3 Format
To get the song off of your CD and get it ready to convert to an MP3, Mac users first need to follow these steps:

  1. Download the free Track Thief program. This program converts the recorded CD track to a stereo AIFF file. AIFF is an industry standard digital file format.
  2. Open the folder that has been downloaded onto your desktop. It cleverly already knows your CD-ROM drive is on SCSI 3 and the Device ID popup lets you switch between multiple attached CD drives, if you have them. It's also useful if you have only one CD drive, since a quick click on it will refresh the track list.
  3. The reliable buffering button is not checked. Check it. Most PowerPCs will need the Reliable Buffering turned on.
  4. Choose the track you want to convert to an MP3 file. Clicking the Steal button copies the selected track(s) to your hard disk. Choose your track and hit the "Steal" button. Be sure not to pirate music. Angry Coffee does not condone theft.

If you want to make multiple MP3s off of one CD simply hold down the Shift key while highlighting the tracks you want. Do not put a check mark in the Separate Files box. Unfortunately, the program will not take multiple tracks and record them as individual MP3s from your CD. They'll be one track. When making a multiple song, one-track MP3 make sure you have enough memory on your computer. Save the file to appropriate place.

  5. Congratulations, you now have an AIFF file! Let's convert it to an MP3 file.
COFFEEBREAK
The Strip Leading Silence and Strip Trailing Silence checkboxes control whether Track Thief will strip binary silence from the beginning/end of each output file. When you're making a singular MP3 you will want to use this if there is a lot of silence at the beginning and ending of your tracks. You always want the smallest file size possible.
