How to Encode Audio into a Flash Movie
This is a step-by-step guide to adding an original audio event sound function to your Flash production.
- Open Flash and a window where you can see your audio files. You can drag and drop your .wav file onto the Flash work area, or you can use the import function under the File menu.
- Add another layer to your Flash movie. Use the Layer function under the Insert menu and name this layer "sound."
- Choose what animation keyframe you want the audio to trigger on. Click on the animation keyframe once to bring the time-bar up to that
position. Now, within the sound layer, click on the corresponding frame that the timebar has come to. Through the Insert menu pick the Keyframe function. You have just added a keyframe in the sound layer.
- Double-click that same keyframe in the sound layer and choose the Sound tab under frame properties. Now click and hold on the arrow next to "sound - none." You should see the sound file. Drag the blue bar to your sound file. (Notice that someone dragged the file "wackaloo" onto Flash 10 times. Don't make the same mistake. Unless you are wackaloo). You want your audio event to be sync-event. The effects are straightforward: pan/no pan and custom effects.
- At this moment, while you still have the same window open, you can adjust the volume of your sound file by dragging the little squares in the sound window down or
up to the desired volume.
- Now that you have your audio events in your Flash movie you can go to the File menu and choose Export Movie. Save the .swf file to the appropriate place on your hard drive.Options will now come up for what type of audio stream or audio event sample rate you want the movie to be set up in. Compression rates are available in this window also. As you can see, in this example we are using a 22 kHz sample rate with no compression.

Sure, it would be nice to put 44.1khz CD quality audio in your flash
movie, but keep track of your file size. Try different sample and
compression rates until the file size is optimal and the audio isn't
too compressed. |
