How to Convert MIDI Files to .rmf Files

By this time you should already have the Beatnik Player and Beatnik Editor downloaded onto your computer. You should also have the General MIDI file that you made by following the steps in the How to prepare your MIDI file for the Beatnik Editor tutorial.

  1. Before you can start on anything, you must start a new session. Open the Beatnik Editor application. Go to the File menu and choose New Session.

  2. In the File menu, choose the Import function and import your MIDI file. Imported MIDI files will appear in the Songs window under User Songs. Imported audio samples will appear in the Samples Window under User Samples.

  3. In Songs Window under User Songs simply highlight or choose your MIDI file.

  4. Hit the Play button in the Real Time Window. Your MIDI file should play back using the custom sounds or Special Instruments that you programmed in your MIDI sequencer.

  5. Now under the File menu choose Export rmf. You must have the User Song highlighted as outlined in step #3. Save your file in the appropriate place on your hard drive.

Congratulations! You now have a finished product -- or at least a finished piece of a finished product.
